A Paradigm is a way for Surety
®
Pro subscriptions to create multiple maps with a single click and add them to the Dossier Studio. By default, there are existing Paradigm options that are included in every Surety Pro subscription. Depending on the Company however, there may be a need to group different kinds of maps than the ones already given. At the time of this tutorial, there is no limit on how many maps can be included in the Paradigm list.
In this tutorial we will learn how to add 2 different maps to the Dossier Studio and save them as a custom Paradigm so that they can all be created with one click. The custom Paradigm will appear within the Paradigm list from the main Map interface
as well as after clicking the Paradigm button within the Forms Manager.
Adding maps to the Dossier Studio to be included in the Custom Paradigm
¶
First step is to open the Dossier Studio in order send maps to it.
Tip: If the Dossier Studio is opened with the
File > Dossier Studio
menu item then it will probably open in a new tab in your browser window instead of a new window. (Although it will ultimately depend on if your browser is restricting links to open in a new tab when opening links.)
Switch back to the Surety Mapping System tab (or window) right away
Locate and select or draw a border in order to create maps with. The boundary itself doesn't matter as the main point of this process is to organize the map types in a template.
Click on a map type that you want to be the first to generate using the custom Paradigm.
Click Dossier Studio to add it to the Dossier.
The map will close (or ask to save if it is a form) and you will be brought back to the main map.
Select a boundary again and then select the map or form that you want to be the next one generated. (if you don't want any more maps or forms included in the paradigm then proceed to the
Saving maps within the Dossier as a Paradigm
section).
Click the Dossier Studio button again to add it to the Dossier.
Repeat the last 2 steps until you have all of the different types of maps included in your Paradigm added to the Dossier.
NOTE: It is important to generate and send the maps in the same order as you want the paradigm to create them in.
Saving Maps within the Dossier Studio as a Paradigm
¶
Switch back to your Dossier tab now
When in the Dossier Studio the order of maps is shown in the Table of Contents.
If you are happy with the order and map types click on
File > Save Paradigm
(If a change needs to be made, delete all maps from the bottom up to where the change is needed and then switch back to the Surety Mapping Tab to send maps from that point again. )
It is best to give the Paradigm a unique name that is relevant to the maps within it.
After a successful save, find the custom paradigm in the Paradigm list from the Main Mapping interface or in the Form Manager.
Delete a Custom Paradigm by clicking on the Trash Can icon next to the name of the paradigm.
How to add an overview map to a Custom Paradigm
¶
If you plan on generating the Custom Paradigm from the Form Manager selections, then it may be beneficial to add an Overview Map to the Paradigm. This method will tell the Dossier Studio to only produce an Overview map once for all of the selected Form records.
Note: If you do not plan on creating the custom paradigm from the Form Manager, then you should not add an Overview Map to the Paradigm at all.
First click the drop down arrow from above the table of contents in the Dossier Studio and choose
Add Overview Page
Then select the type of map to use as the Overview Map (FSA Map or Overview Map are the common choices)
Define any extra extent that you want to include (in miles)
Then once again you can save with the
File > Save Paradigm
Finally give it a name.
