A Flood Way or "Regulatory Floodway" is the channel of a river or other waterway as well as the surrounding land that must be set aside so that it can handle a certain amount of flooding without raising the the water surface level more than a designated height.

FEMA Flood Ways in Surety®

When the FEMA Flood Zones Layer is active, Flood Ways will appear as a red hatching overlay as seen here.

When the FEMA layers are active, they will appear on a FSA Map when generated.
