The Legal Description map within Surety® and Surety® Pro can take the mapped boundary and write a basic legal description based on the section, quarter sections and/or lot numbers of the area using PLSS (Public Land Survey System) boundaries.

How to generate a Legal Description map:
Create a Legal Description map by first selecting or drawing a boundary within Surety or Surety Pro. (See: Select Tool & Draw Field Tool )

Find and click on Legal Description within the map/form list.

The map highlights each quarter section in green that contain a portion of the drawn or selected boundary.

Notes the PLSS (Public Land Survey System) boundary data source and details of the source.

The "Short Legal" contains an abbreviated description of the boundary. Example: NWNW = Northwest quarter of the northwest quarter. S2NW = South half of the Northwest quarter.

The Long Legal contains the expanded description with the county and state also described. Example: NW1/4 NW1/4 = Northwest quarter of the Northwest quarter. S1/2 NW1/4 = South half of the Northwest quarter.

Similar to all Surety maps and forms, the generated template can be output in a variety of ways using the appropriate buttons on the side.
