Add a custom legend to your map or form that pulls in and displays boundary colors and acreages from another set layer within the Surety Pro account.

Image

The legend is added using the Forms Designer feature which is available to Surety Pro Administrator accounts.
The Attribute legend is also available to Surety Pro subscriptions by simply contacting the AgriData, Inc. Support team to have a map or form customized at no charge.

The legend with information based on a link with another data layer in the account. The legend will use the "Color By" setting within that linked layer's properties menu to determine what colors to display in the legend.

One example of the legend's uses would be the Crop Summary Map displaying the crop types, colors, and acreages from saved Crop Assignment layer records.

Add layer records to display in the layer legend on the map.

Before getting into the Form Designer tools and adding a legend to a map template, at least one record must be saved to a form layer that we wish to include in the legend itself. For this example the Alternate Boundary layer will be used to save records to pull into the legend.

Let's start by saving some records using the Alternate Boundary layer. If the Alternate Boundary option is not in the form list after you have a client selected, use the Favorites link and expand the My Forms/Maps category to enable the Alternate Boundary option in the Forms list.

Image

Now select or draw a boundary on the map and click on the newly added "Alternate Boundary" option within your maps/forms list.

Image

Add items to the "Color" list that you can use to define these boundaries by clicking on the pencil icon. Note if you are wanting to assign Crop types to field boundaries, it is recommended to use the Crop Assignments layer instead.

Image

In this example Tillable, Non-Tillable, and Building Site will be added to the list to use.

Image

Select an option and Save.

Image

Repeat adding a few different records. Then click on the Alternate Boundary Layer in the Layers panel.

Image

Click Symbology and then set the Or Color By: setting to "Color" and click on the Pencil icon. See: Form Layer Properties

Assign colors to the attributes and then close the Or Color By window.

Save the layer properties.

This will change the way your saved records will look on the map. The Or color by settings are what is used to determine the colors in the Attribute legend that will be created next.

How to add a legend to a map template

On the Surety Pro Administrator account, go to Admin > Forms Designer to be able to add a legend to an existing or new map template.

Image

This example will go over adding a legend to the FSA Map template. Use File > Open then select FSA Map for the list.

Image

To make room for the legend click on the map and adjust the Width attribute to "550".

Image

The bounding box also needs to be adjusted to fit around the map control. Click within the box, select Rec_19 from the Multi select and then adjust the Width and Height to 551 each.

Image

Now that there is enough space on the canvas to place the Layer legend tool, expand the Legend box in the left panel and click on Layer Legend to select it. Then click on an open area of the canvas to place the legend control.

Image

There are 3 properties that effect the look of the Legend.

Grid Lines - will place lines between the listed data. (Recommended On)
Truncate Table - will display the number of rows not listed if the legend area is cut off by the the edge of the printable area or other controls on the map. (Recommended Off)
Cell Spacing - determines the space between the cells in the legend. (Recommended "0")

Image

Click on the Legend Columns button to setup what information is grabbed by this legend.

Image

Go to File > Save As and give it a new name and save it to the Company level for use within all clients.

Image

Then Release the Map Template

How to generate a map containing a layer legend

Use the select tool and select some or all of the saved layer records on the map and click on the new template name in the list of maps and forms.

Image

The map will load with the legend populated based on the Or Color By setting of the linked layer. In this case it is the Alternate Boundary layer but it can be setup to link to any desired polygon layer.

Image

The map can also be generated without selecting the layer boundaries. It will include any linked layer record within the map extent. This may not be beneficial when populating other items such as farmnames and field ids of selected boundaries.
