Merge Fields (merge custom drawn fields and/or smart selected fields)
Modified on 2024/04/15 15:32 by Adam — Categorized as: Features
An essential function in Surety or Surety Pro is the ability to merge multiple drawn fields, pivots, parcels, custom layers, or FSA field boundaries into one boundary!
View our tutorial video or keep scrolling for a step by step walkthrough of the tool.
Merge boundaries that border (& touch) one another.
¶
To access the Merge Fields tool, click
Drawing
in the left hand panel to reveal a list of drawing options.
Drawing
Then click on the radio button next to
Merge Fields
.
Merge Fields
With the Merge Fields tool selected, click on two (or more) boundaries that share at least a part of a border. All selected boundaries will highlight in blue.
Then in the right hand panel click on the Merge Selected link. (It may be necessary to scroll the panel down to find the Merge Selected link)
Merge Selected Link
Once clicked, any shared or intersecting boundaries will be removed and one continuous boundary will exist. The acreage will be recalculated to total the combined area.
You can also use the merge tool in conjunction with the Draw Field tool.
Draw out one border using the drawing tool. See:
Drawing
*Note: In order to merge two fields, there needs to be at least one intersecting or touching border between the two selected fields.
Draw another border with at least one border touching or overlapping the previously drawn section. If your borders overlap the overlapping boundary will turn yellow to indicate this. This is ok in this situation.
Select the "Merge Fields" Drawing tool selection
Merge Fields
Click in the 2 overlapping borders by clicking the inside of each of them. Both boundaries will highlight in blue if done correctly
Click the
Merge Selected
Link
Now the selected areas have been combined into one area.

Pro
¶
Merging saved borders in Surety Pro is the same process as merging other boundary layers such as the FSA fields or Parcel layers.
First make sure that Border is checked in the layers panel (if subscribed to the Parcel layer, make sure Parcel is
NOT
checked)
Click Drawing and select the Merge Fields option
Merge Fields
Click in all of the touching saved borders to be merged together. They will all be highlighted in blue.
Click
Merge Selected
in the draw field panel.
This will combine all of the boundaries. To commit the merged boundary as the updated Saved Border, click Save Borders in the right panel.
(Note: There is NO undo function after Saving the merged boundaries.)
The name of the boundary will be set to one of the originally selected fields. To modify the name just use the select tool, click within the saved border and click Edit Borders.
Rename the boundary appropriately and then click Save
The saved border is now merged and named appropriately
