The Hillshade Topography Layer is a data layer available in both Surety® and Surety® Pro that will display a colorized shading based on the topography data to better visualize the rise and fall of land elevation on the map. Each map view(pan, zoom in or out) will refresh the colors to always provide a full color spectrum on the map.

The Topography Hillshade layer is available to use starting typically at a 3 mile wide zoom level(this may be greater or smaller depending on screen resolution). Once the map is zoomed to at least a 3 mile width, click on Layers button to access the Layers Panel.

Scroll down the list of layers to find the Topography Hillshade option and check the box to enable the layer.

As long as the map scale is close enough, the topo hillshade color data will overlay the map.

Note: Many times the Hillside Topo layer will be used in conjunction with the Contour Topo Lines Layer in order to overlay the elevation values.

Clicking the Topography Hillshade layer name in the layers panel will open a form properties page that enables the adjustment of the opacity and vertical exaggeration.

Adjust these values based on how bright and exaggerated the mapping scenario dictates.
Note that these property values will carry over to the Topography Hillshade Report when generated.
