National Commodity Crop Productivity Index (NCCPI)
The
National Commodity Crop Productivity Index (NCCPI)
model is a "national soil interpretation that is not intended to replace other crop production models developed by individual states. At present, NCCPI is generated in the National Soil Information System (NASIS) environment and is reported in the Soil Data Mart and on Web Soil Survey. It presently deals only with nonirrigated crops, but at a later date it will be expanded to include irrigated crops, rangeland, and forestland productivity. The NCCPI uses natural relationships of soil, landscape and climate factors to model the response of commodity crops in soil map units according to The value of ranges is from 0 to 100, 100 being the best." ("User Guide for the National Commodity Crop Productivity Index (NCCPI) Version 2.0" iii)
Displaying the National Commodity Crop Productivity Index '(NCCPI)' shows index columns in addition to Crop Yield information when selected. For more information about NCCPI see the
NCCPI User Guide v3.0, (2022)
which describes the methodology and logic of the NCCPI model.

Notice: The Nebraska (NE) NRCS No longer updates the yields in the Web soil Survey. "The reason being that with the advancement of farming practices, the data quickly becomes out of date. Instead NRCS NE uses the National Commodity Crop Productivity Index (NCCPI) which uses natural relationships of soil, landscape and climate factors to model the response of commodity crops in soil map units." (D. Shurtliff- NRCS NE Soil Scientist, Email Communication, July 2 2014)
To access this options page and enable the NCCPI, go to Tools drop down from the main mapping interface.
